BlueModus loves to celebrate our team, and we love giving back to the community - so several years ago, we decided to combine these two passions. Our Management Team selects two colleagues from the company each month who embody the values that make BlueModus a great place to work. BlueModus then donates to the charity chosen by the colleagues.
This month, one of those colleagues is Christina Rivera. She is a Senior Project Manager who joined our team in June 2021. In her role, Christina leads a project team building websites, webstores, and web applications for our clients’ projects. For her charity, Christina has selected Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES) for a donation.
“I am a first-generation Salvadoran American, and I owe that privilege to the risk and sacrifices that my parents made to get us here. I’ve seen firsthand the lengthy, expensive and overwhelming process of navigating our immigration system, and I am thankful there are non-profit organizations to support immigrants through that journey. This is why I’m thrilled to choose RAICES to receive this donation,” shared Christina.
RAICES is a non-profit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees. With legal services, social programs, bond assistance, and an advocacy team focused on changing the narrative around immigration in this country, RAICES operates on the national frontlines of the fight for immigration rights.
The current United States immigration policy denies entry to refugees fleeing violence, detains people in abusive detention centers, and separates parents from their children. RAICES is heavily focused on changing U.S. policies, which it views as intentionally dehumanizing. Recently, RAICES Children’s Program provided legal services to over 4,700 detained children, including thousands held in a tent city in Tornillo, TX. It established the largest Bond Fund in the nation, and since June 2018, this fund has spent just under $12 million directly to secure the release of more than 1,200 individuals from ICE detention. In addition, through its San Antonio Bus Station Project, RAICES staff and volunteers helped more than 9,000 adults and 12,000 children released from detention understand their legal rights.
