As part of its ongoing program to give back to our community, this month BlueModus has donated $1,000 to Coder Kids, Inc., a charity that aims to familiarize kids of all ages with basic computer science fundamentals, through hosting free and fun technology workshops.

Based in Pennsylvania, Coder Kids is a non-profit founded in 2014 that runs both beginner and advanced workshops for children five and older who are interested in computers and programming. The workshops have a dual purpose: they not only allow for kids to have fun with learning computer technology and meet others with the same interests, they also allow education about computer science and programming through active, hands-on cool projects, interesting demos, and fascinating presentations. Volunteer technology professionals act as mentors for each workshop. In particular, Coder Kids encourages girls and children from other underrepresented groups in the STEM fields to get involved with learning programming as a first step towards exploring a possible career in computer technology.

“I believe technology will be humanity’s saving grace, so I think any way we can get kids to get interested in programming and STEM fields is a benefit to us all,” shares BlueModus Senior Web Developer Sean Fleming, who selected this month’s charity. “I also wish I had been introduced to coding earlier in life, so I’m a big supporter of Coder Kids for providing that for the next generation.”
