BlueModus Donates to Book Trust

We love celebrating our colleagues and giving back to our community, so several years ago, BlueModus decided to combine these two loves. Each month, our Management Team selects two colleagues who shine and represent the values that make BlueModus a great workplace. These two colleagues select a charity, and BlueModus donates on their behalf.

This month, one of those colleagues is Anne Wofford. She joined BlueModus in 2018 and is our Creative Director. Not only does Anne oversee our design and UX practice, but she is personally responsible for creating the design for some of our best client projects. Anne is incredible at translating our client’s needs into a beautiful, functional aesthetic.

Recently, BlueModus made a $500 donation to Book Trust on behalf of Anne. Book Trust’s work revolves around a sad fact: There are thousands of children in America who would like nothing better than to read but have no books. It might seem surprising that so many kids in one of the wealthiest nations in the world can’t get their hands on a simple two-dollar book. But the picture is pretty stark – in low-income areas, there is just 1 book for every 300 children.

“It has been important to our family to ensure that our kids developed a love of books and reading early on. Books have so much power and possibility - not only can they provide joy (and relief from boredom during COVID) but also this empowering ability to expand knowledge by simply having access” shares Anne. “Book Trust understands and embodies this mission by cultivating a culture of literacy in school and at home by supporting educators to help their students discover the joy and power of reading.”

Book Trust empowers kids from low-income communities to choose and buy their own books throughout the school year. And their focus on book choice and ownership is no accident. Studies show that children are much more likely to read books when they choose and having books at home brings proven benefits. So, Book Trust is about helping kids build home libraries full of books they want to read and helping teachers use those books in the classroom to build healthy reading and learning habits.
